Hunger wins the Camera D’Or at Cannes
The Wales Creative IP Fund notched up
another major international film festival hit with the film Hunger
winning Camera D'Or prize at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
Hunger follows life in the Maze Prison, Northern Ireland, with
an interpretation of the highly emotive events surrounding the 1981
IRA hunger strike, led by Bobby Sands. The screenplay was
co-written and directed by British artist Steve McQueen with
award-winning playwright Enda Walsh and stars Michael
Fassbender.
Hunger is the latest IP Fund-backed film to receive
international recognition. The Edge of Love, which focuses on part
of poet Dylan Thomas' life and stars Keira Knightley, Sienna
Miller, Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys.
"To have such international recognition of the film productions
which have been backed by the Wales Creative IP Fund is testament
to the standards of the creative industries in Wales," said Bethan
Cousins, IP Fund manager.
