A US company specialising in new product innovation utilising their
discoveries into the bacterial, microbial and anti microbial world
has set up a state-of-the-art research and development facility in
Wales with investment from Finance Wales.
Biotal Technologies (UK) Ltd has established its R&D
facility at Capital Business Park, Cardiff from where it will
develop new technologies for its existing markets in washroom
hygiene, the marine industry and new opportunities. Biotal
Technologies have already developed world leading natural
germicides for sanitary waste and environmentally sensitive
products for treating waste generated on board ships.
With £100,000 investment from Finance Wales, a provider of
commercial funding to SMEs in Wales, and a Regional Selective
Assistance grant from the Welsh Assembly Government, the company
will use the Wales base to focus on its worldwide R&D and the
development of global sales. The combined investment into the new
facility will total more than £300,000.
“The control of bacteria has often been dealt with by
potentially hazardous materials. We have developed a unique way of
treating them with natural materials which means that there is less
impact on the environment”, said David apjohn-Williams of Biotal
Technologies (UK) Ltd.
“The investment from Finance Wales, the RSA from the Welsh Assembly
Government and support from Cardiff Council were an important
element to this latest phase”.
One of the companies products, Biosan P plus, is already
effectively protecting customers using sanitary disposal units. It
uses natural plant extracts to control potentially harmful
micro-organisms in the waste allowing for safe disposal in a manner
that will not harm the environment.
Ieuan Wyn Jones, Assembly Government Minister for the Economy
and Transport, said the decision to set up an R&D operation in
Wales was excellent news.
“R&D drives forward innovation which is essential for business
success and economic growth. Biotal is a technology based company
developing a range of ‘green’ products designed to minimise any
impact on the environment and I am pleased the Assembly Government
has been able to support them in their new venture in Wales.”
Michael Owen, Senior Investment Executive at Finance Wales said:
“Biotal Technologies has the potential for high growth within the
UK, European and global markets and is continuously developing new,
natural ways of dealing with waste associated products. Our
investment will ensure a firm foundation for its future
growth.”
