Follow-on investment supports Inscapes UK expansion
23/09/09
South Wales based Inscapes is expanding its sports ground
contracting, landscaping and environmental business, with the
assistance of follow-on funding from Finance Wales.
Inscapes, based in Bridgend, was established in 2005 following a
management buy-out led by Chief Executive Gareth Rees. Since then
the business has grown organically, making a number of key
acquisitions which has assisted it to become one of the UK’s
specialist suppliers for sports, landscaping and environmental
projects.
Finance Wales, a provider of commercial funding to businesses in
Wales, supported the original MBO with an investment of £50,000.
Recently, it provided follow-on debt funding of £60,000 to support
a major contract to translocate sections along the 316km long LPG
pipeline between Milford Haven and Tirley in Gloucester.
Mr Rees said: “The environmental arm of the business is
strategically important to us and growth is significant in this
area. The LPG pipeline is a good example. We translocated turf from
environmentally sensitive areas and relayed it back in the same
areas after installation of the pipeline. This ensured the
environment was replaced in designated areas in the Brecon Beacons
National Park. We are currently assisting international pipeline
contractors to return the site to its previous environmental
condition.
“The commercial funding and support from Finance Wales has
enabled us to maintain our continued growth and was an obvious next
step following our successful MBO in 2005. We have also received
valuable support from Dave Perez at Finance Wales who has taken an
active interest in the progress of the business.”
Inscapes has a number of high profile clients, including the
Millennium Stadium, Cardiff; Wentworth and Celtic Manor golf
courses and Llanelli Scarlets Rugby Club. The project at the
Llanelli Scarlets included the complete pitch construction
incorporating drainage, irrigation and under pitch heating. The
company has received a number of very positive testimonials from
both players and managers.
A recent project completed for Cardiff City Stadiums Limited
included removal of the Ninian Park playing surface to a new
training facility. The company is actively pursuing opportunities
for work at the 2012 Olympic Games and is currently expanding its
operating area to a wider UK market, placing greater emphasis on
the environmental arm in its growth strategy.
David Perez, Investment Executive at Finance Wales, said
Inscapes demonstrated the importance of investment to secure
long-term growth. “With our existing relationship with Inscapes,
the company realised that in order to grow it required additional
investment and turned to us to identify a suitable package. We are
pleased to be continuing our relationship the company at an
exciting time for them.”
